October 14, 2010 - The Goshen Central School District has applied for Race to the Top (RTTT) funding before the October 18, 2010 deadline. At this time, it is unclear as to what our expected allocations will be from the state and federal governments.
It is, however, our understanding that 75 to 80
percent of the allocated money will go to
Orange-Ulster BOCES, who in turn will run a consortium for the school
districts they service that are undertaking this initiative.
The Goshen Central School District did apply late in the process pending explanation from the State on certain aspects of the program. We are pleased to have all questions answered, allowing us to move forward with the Race to the Top process.
To qualify for Race to the Top funding, states are required to advance reforms around four specific areas:
Adopting standards and assessments that prepare students to succeed in college, the workplace and the global economy;
Building data systems that measure student growth and success, and inform teachers and principals about how they can improve instruction;
•Recruiting, developing, rewarding, and retaining effective teachers and principals, especially where they are needed most; and
Turning around our lowest-achieving schools
At this time, we are unsure as to when we will
receive word about the amount of funding we will be given through Race
to the Top. All details will be shared with the community as soon as
they are available from the State.
