Ask the Superintendent -
January 16, 2008
One of the things that I have noticed through
the years is that people anxiously await the coming
of the winter recess and all of the trappings of the
holiday season. It is such a busy time of the year
that it always seems to go by very quickly, and then
we return to the normalcy and routine of going to
school.
We are only in the third week of January and the
holiday vacation will soon become a distant memory
with all of the activity in our schools. The Goshen
Intermediate School has already completed the New
York State ELA Exams last week, and this week the
C.J. Hooker Middle School will be taking their New
York State ELA Exams. Next week the High School
students will sit for their Mid-Term and Final Exams
for full and half year courses. New York State
Regents Exams are scheduled during January 22-25. If
that isn’t enough, the Middle School has a Band
Concert on January 23rd at 7:00 p.m. and a Choral &
Orchestra Concert on January 29th at 7:00 p.m. The
Grade 2 Concert, at Scotchtown Avenue School is
scheduled for January 29th and 30th at 10:00 a.m.
Our winter sports season is also approaching its
mid-season mark, and the High School Spring Musical
of “Li’l Abner” is in full rehearsal.
All of the administrators and directors have been
very busy working through budget meetings as we all
attempt to build the 2008/09 school budget. In three
short weeks, we will have our first meeting of the
Citizens’ Budget Advisory Committee as we continue
the budget building process.
As our memory of the holiday season begins to fade,
all of us in the school district are once again very
busy with not only the special events mentioned
above, but also with the day-to-day ups and downs
that come with teaching our “kids.”
