Ask the Superintendent -
February 27, 2008
Currently the development process for buildings
next year’s budget is in full swing. To date,
presentations to the Board of Education have been
made by Jim Riley, Superintendent of Buildings &
Grounds, Donna Weyant, Director of Transportation,
Dr. Sandra Giunta, Technology Department, Robert
Litz, Goshen High School Principal, Kent Maslin, C.
J. Hooker Middle School Principal, Mary Ann Knight,
Goshen Intermediate School Principal, Daria Murphy,
Scotchtown Avenue School Principal, Robert Siracuse,
Athletic Director, Barbara Butler, Pupil Personnel
Services Director, and Deirdre Hallinan, CSE Chair.
On March 3rd the Central Office will make its budget
presentation along with staffing projections.
Once again our Citizens’ Budget Advisory Committee
is operating and had a very good first meeting on
Wednesday, February 6th. Unfortunately, we have not
met for two weeks; as February 13th was a snow day
and February 20th was a regularly scheduled Board of
Education meeting. This committee will resume its
review of budget requests on Wednesday, February
27th and will continue every Wednesday in the month
of March and most of April.
The composition of this year’s committee is
exceptionally well balanced. Five members have four
years experience having been on CBAC since its
inception. Two members have three years experience
and one has been with us for two years. This year we
will welcome five new members. The strength of this
committee has always been its diversity and its
honesty. Members are volunteers who put in numerous
hours reviewing the entire process, asking
questions, and challenging the need for budgetary
increases. They have become a valuable resource in
the process.
