5, 2011 – Fabien Rivière, foreign language teacher at the
C. J. Hooker Middle School, was recently honored by SUNY New Paltz as a
recipient of the 2011 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
The French and Spanish teacher was nominated by members of Central
Administration and the Board of Education. He was honored at a reception
at SUNY New Paltz in November, and will be honored at the Mid-Hudson
School Study Council awards dinner at Anthony’s Pier Nine on October 12.
Rivière teaches French and Spanish for the Goshen Central School
District. He also performs adjunct work for local community colleges. He
has presented pedagogical and cultural workshops and webinars to
educators, K-12, both in the U.S. and overseas.
Rivière was born and raised in southwestern France and first came to the
United States as a Fulbright Scholar in Louisiana and New Jersey. He
earned both a BA and MA in World Languages, Cultures and Translation
from the University of Toulouse in France and graduated from Cambridge
University in England with a concentration in Modern Languages and
Secondary Education. In addition to his career as a professional
translator and interpreter, Mr. Rivière has taught and resided in many
countries including Scotland, England, Australia, Germany, Spain and
France.
"It is a true honor for me to receive such a distinction,” said Rivière.
“I am mostly thankful to my fellow colleagues, support staff and the
administration of Goshen Schools for their nomination and incredible
support throughout the years in the district. I really want to share
this award with all of my students for they impact every day my life in
such a profound and rewarding way – they are the excellence in learning,
after all. Bravo à vous tous, mes élèves!"
