November 15, 2011 - On Thursday, December 1, the Guidance Department will present a workshop on college financial aid for seniors and their parents. The program will begin at 7 p.m. in the High School auditorium. A snow date has been scheduled for Tuesday, December 8.
Michael Fraher, Director of Financial Aid at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, will be the guest presenter. Fraher will discuss the procedure for applying for financial aid and will present an explanation of how to complete the financial aid applications required by all colleges. The information will be applicable to parents and students considering any form of financial aid for post-secondary education regardless of the college, technical or vocational schools they are planning to attend.
Copies of the 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) worksheets will be available to parents on the evening of the workshop. Students may also obtain them at any time from the guidance office or online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Since the majority of students attending college receive some form of financial aid, including student loans, and are required to file financial aid applications as soon as possible after January 1, 2012, parents will find this program helpful and informative.
