January
4, 2012 – The Orzell, Schoen and Wiener families recently
shared some Chanukah traditions with Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School
students in Valerie Cassel’s second grade class.
Students learned that Chanukah, or the “Festival of Lights,” celebrates hope, freedom, dedication and miracles.
During the visit, the families shared the traditional Chanukah story and told fun facts about the holiday. They read a “Hoppy Chanukah” story book by Linda Glaser and played the traditional dreidel game. Students also lit a Menorah and posed for a group picture in the form of a “human Menorah.”
Traditional holiday treats were enjoyed by students, including chocolate Chanukah Gelt, Mama’s Potato Latkes with applesauce and Jelly Donuts.
