February 13,
2012 – On February 10, the Scotchtown Avenue Elementary
School celebrated the ribbon cutting of its new computer lab,
which will serve as a secondary lab for the school.
The district’s Technical Services Department refurbished and reimaged 27
older computers in order to create the second lab for Scotchtown Avenue.
Extensive electrical work was also completed by the Buildings and
Grounds Department in order to get the former first grade classroom
ready for its new computers.
The new computer lab will be used in addition to the school’s main
computer lab, as a supplemental learning lab. Teachers are able to bring
their students to the secondary lab to continue working on projects that
they learned during computer classes. In addition, classes that were
formerly unable to gain regular access to the main computer lab because
of scheduling conflicts are now able to use the secondary lab as an
enhancement to their lesson plans.
The lab will also be used for staff development and training purposes.
“Our students are digital natives,” said Principal Amy Peluso. “As we
prepare them for the demands of the 21st century, it's great to be able
to have this secondary lab to facilitate more teacher and student ‘tech
time.’ Many thanks to all who made this happen including Michelle West,
our building’s technology teacher, James Sterett, network coordinator,
and the Buildings and Grounds department. This was truly a team effort
and could not have happened without the efforts of each of these
individuals."
