September 19, 2011 - Welcome to the newly designed Goshen website! The Goshen Central School District first launched its district website with the Capital Region BOCES Communications Service back in September 2005. In the past six years, several advancements in website design have been made, both aesthetically and structurally, and an update was necessary in order to continue to provide a website that contains up-to-date information in an easy-to-find format.
“The website is the communications hub for the district,” said Superintendent Daniel Connor. “It’s where our community looks for information and news. It’s important to keep the website as relevant as possible, so that it can continue to be the first and most reliable source of information for our community.”
In fact, in the past month, the website has averaged 1,090 visitors PER DAY, according to statistics provided by Google Analytics. This is proof that Goshen residents increasingly turning to their district website for information about their schools.
The district began its website redesign process in February, working with the Capital Region BOCES Communications Service to create a new website that is both comprehensive and vibrant. The new design is visually modern, user-friendly and meets today’s industry standards for use by viewers with disabilities as well as those using multiple web browsers, such as Firefox and Safari.
The site also meets the major characteristics today’s users say they want in a website: useful and responds to their needs, easy to navigate, has quality content and is updated frequently with new information.
So what’s new about the site?
The first thing viewers will notice is a large, full-color revolving photo slide show featuring our students in action. The slide show will change periodically to feature various activities and events in the district. On the school home pages, there are large photo arrays that will change photos each time you log onto or refresh the page.
New and improved photo galleries will also be found throughout the site, with thumbnail photos that users can click through. These special galleries are a new trend that will help “tell the story” of the great things our students do every day.
Navigation has been made simpler with the use of drop down menus on the navigation rails. By holding your mouse over these rails, a menu will drop down, allowing users to see the different links available for them to view. For example, if you hold your mouse over the Athletics link on the home page navigation rail, a drop down menu will appear with a list of links to follow, such as Staff/Coaches Directory, GHS Physical Education, Weekly Athletics Schedule and more.
The district home page navigation is broken down by district links and resources, and there are Quick Links with easy-to-view icons. School home pages have school links and Quick Links as well. Scrolling event calendars feature upcoming events, and a Hot Topics box below the main content will feature important information and news.
Other features include scrolling event calendars, an A-Z quick reference guide, and Quick Link sections with easy-to-view icons. Another special feature is the “Share This” option found on news pages, that allow viewers to share their favorite articles via Facebook, Twitter and e-mail.
Even with all these new features,
the website is like a living thing -- it will continue to grow and
evolve everyday, allowing
www.goshenschoolsny.org to be the first and most reliable source of
information for its community.
