SAS students participate in bus safety drill

September 22, 2011 - On September 13, students in grades K-2 participated in a bus safety drill. This drill was the first of three required drills to be held throughout the school year. View the photo gallery!

Students boarded the buses, one class at a time, for approximately 20 minutes. There, they were led by Goshen's school bus drivers through a brief discussion on bus safety, including bus boarding skills, emergency exit skills, and staying on the safe side -- or staying out of the "danger zone."

Emphasized points during the safety drill included:

If you can touch the bus, you're too close.
Always wait for the driver to signal for you to cross.
Stay out of the "danger zone."
In the event of an emergency, stay calm and listen to the driver.

All students were given a sticker to wear home, prompting parents to continue the discussion at home. Classroom teachers also followed up with the importance of bus safety during morning meeting routines.

The next two bus safety drills will be held, weather permitting, lon November 29 and April 17.
