Read an important letter about
changes in Transportation

(Back)

One of the highest priorities of the Goshen Central School District is to provide safe and reliable bus transportation for our students. Over the years, we have actually provided more service than the District’s long-standing policy that requires students to walk up to one-half mile to either their bus stop or school. Many bus routes have included frequent stops so that students could be picked up and dropped off closer to their homes.

However, financial pressures have seriously impacted the cost of transportation and changes are inevitable. Although the District can not control the cost of fuel, it can attempt to limit the amount used. In order to do so, the District has consolidated its bus routes and bus stops to reflect the half-mile policy.

The bus route/bus stop revisions have been carefully planned by the Transportation Department, in conjunction with administration and the members of the Board of Education. Although there will be some changes in bus routes, the majority of changes will be made to the number of stops within each route.

By eliminating certain stops, such as some side streets, cul-de-sac and neighborhood sections, the District will reduce many miles traveled – and many gallons of fuel for our buses. These revised routes will also create smoother traffic patterns during the busiest hours of the day.

Many students, with parental supervision, will be required to walk up to one-half mile to their newly designated bus stop. Information about the pick-up time and location of bus stops will be mailed to each student’s family by late August.

It is important that parents of Kindergarten students meet their child at their afternoon bus stop or have a parent designee present when the bus arrives. If no parent/designee is available, the parent will be immediately notified and the child will be returned to Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School to be picked up by the parent/designee.

The Goshen Central School District takes pride in providing safe busing for our students. With the cooperation of the community, we will continue to safely transport our students in a manner that is efficient as well as cost effective.

Sincerely,
Roy Reese
Superintendent of School
