Goshen
Youth Jazz Band
plays at 11th annual
Community in Concert
October 2008

On October 11,
members of the Goshen Youth Jazz Band performed at
the 11th annual Community in Concert at the Thomas
Bull Memorial Park in Montgomery. The concert is a
musical celebration of mental health, wellness and
recovery.
The band joined performers Graham Parker, Orleans
Acoustic, Robbie Dupree, Cornell Gunter’s Coasters,
Carlos Jiminez and his Latin Jazz, and more.
The band consists of music students at the Goshen
Intermediate School and C. J. Hooker Middle School
and is conducted by Goshen Intermediate School Music
Teachers Ellen Dickinson and Roger Voss. Their two
half-hour sets included rock-n-roll tunes such as
Proud Mary, I’m a Believer, Rock Around The Clock ,
Rockin’ Robin, Superstition, Mercy Mercy Mercy, Zuit
Suit Riot, Smoke on the Water and other rock-n-roll
tunes.
There are 47 members of the Goshen Youth Jazz Band,
consisting of 11 trumpets players, 10 trombone
players, four baritone saxophone players, six tenor
saxophone players, eight alto saxophone players,
three vibe players, two piano players, one guitar
player, one bass guitar player and three drummers.
Four students play more than one instrument.
This was the first
time that the Goshen Youth Jazz Band performed at
the annual concert, but it won't be the last. The
Agency's President, Mr. Nolly Climes, has already
invited the students back to next year's concert in
the park.
