Celebration of the Arts
features work from across curriculum (Back)
June 26, 2009 -
The first-ever “Celebration of the Arts” was
held May 19-20 at the C. J. Hooker Middle School.
Creative visual
projects from across the middle school’s curriculum
were on display, including “big books” written and
illustrated by eighth grade English students, clay
replicas of French monuments by French students,
brochures and advertisements designed by students in
Family and Consumer Science classes, graph pictures
created by math students, and of course, artwork by
art students.
In addition, the
silent furniture auction of chairs and tables,
painted by eighth grade advanced art students,
raised more than $1,400 for the Hannah Crossley
Foundation, in honor of the former middle school
student who fought a courageous battle with cancer.
The money will help Hannah’s brother, Austin,
achieve his goal of raising $10,000 for cancer
research in honor of his sister.
The advanced art
students painted the furniture in the styles of
their favorite artists, such as Van Gogh, Andy
Warhol, Georgia O’Keefe, Keith Harring and Claude
Monet.
“My advanced art
students worked really hard on their auction
pieces,” said Christina Pahucki, art teacher. “Many
students remained in school until 9 o’clock in the
evening, painting finishing touches on their
furniture in order to help raise money for this
wonderful cause.”
