Colleen Kane
named
principal of
C. J.
Hooker Middle School (Back)
Colleen Kane was
recently named principal of the C. J. Hooker Middle
School. She replaced Kent Maslin, who resigned
earlier this summer.
Kane began working
for the district in August 2006, when the Clifton
Park native left her position as a school counselor
for the Cairo-Durham Middle School in Greene County
to serve as the middle school’s assistant principal
– a position she held for the past two years.
Kane received
bachelor degrees in business and psychology from
Russell Sage College in Troy as well as a Masters
degree in school counseling. She received a
Certificate of Advanced Study from the College of
Saint Rose in Albany. Before becoming an educator,
Kane worked as general manager of an engineering
firm for 15 years.
During her first
year as principal, Kane plans to initiate more
in-house activities for students by working closely
with the members of the Parent-Teacher Organization
(PTO). She would also like to work with parents to
help keep them aware of their child’s academic life.
“A major focus is
to continue building a bridge between parents and
the school,” said Kane. “It’s important to empower
parents at home and help them create a stronger
parent-child relationship.”
Kane would like to
host parent workshops on issues such as cyber
safety, homework and study habits. The math and
English Language Arts (ELA) departments will conduct
workshops that will prepare parents to help their
kids study for these major exams.
“It’s certainly
both an honor and privilege to serve the Goshen
community as principal of the middle school,” said
Kane. “I’m looking forward to the new school year
and creating opportunities which will enrich our
students both socially and academically.”
