English/Language Arts

A program that builds lifelong readers and writers

There are several components to our ELA program,

all of which align with the NYS standards.

Writer's Workshop

   *Writer's Notebook- a place to practice new skills and generate new ideas

   *Process Writing- a progression through stages culminating in published pieces

   *Conventions- a review of basic grammar and language skills

Literature

  *Making Meaning - a reading comprehension and community building program.

   *Genre studies

Word Study

   * Assessment guided phonics, spelling, and vocabulary program

Library Skills

   * To be provided by the school librarian
