... coming on Tuesday...
**ALL WORK MAY BE UPLOADED TO
MOODLE TO SAVE AT ANY TIME IN ORDER TO WORK ON
THIS AT HOME OR OUTSIDE OF CLASS TIME.**
Research Imperialism here:
http://www.smplanet.com/imperialism/toc.html and
http://www.hippocampus.org/US%20History%20II
Collect summary information and write 3-4
sentences about how the United States expanded to:
YOUR NOTES SHOULD INCLUDE:
WHY we were
interested in this territory, HOW we become
involved, LONG TERM impact for the USA
- Alaska
- Midway Islands
- Samoan Islands
- Spanish-American War (Philippines, Guam,
Puerto Rico, Cuba)
- Wake Island
- Hawaii
- Panama Canal Zone
- Palmyra
- Virgin Islands
As you research these places, please also find 2
images representing how and why the US was
interested in these territories. Do NOT copy
and paste the picture. Rather, find the image
source and paste the code into your notes. You
will need this later.
- To get the image code from a website, RIGHT
CLICK the image, click on PROPERTIES, then COPY
the entire "ADDRESS:(URL)" and PASTE that into
your notes. You will need this information
to do the Google Earth project.
Google Earth Component
Once you have gathered your information, open up
Google Earth (link is on your desktop - this is a
free download if you need the program at home.)
You will be creating a virtual map of your locations
from where the US expanded.
You will be searching for the locations you
researched. Pushpin indicators locating the
places and put your summary information and images
there. In order to get you started, there is a
YouTube tutorial here:
http://youtu.be/gcCxheJPnyw . If you are
working on this at school, please locate the same
video here:
http://ttc.gcsny.org/safevideos/Video.aspx?id=gcCxheJPnyw
.
Panama Canal Zone
After finishing your information, please indicate
the Path (button near top of screen
)
that a ship would have to take to get from New York
City to San Francisco, California prior to the
Panama Canal being built. Then indicate a
different path indicating the route a ship could
take after the Panama Canal was built.
How to Submit
When you are finished, you will be asked to
record a video of all of the work you have done
through Google Earth. Tutorial will follow.
