Extra Credit

Extra
credit activities will be made available throughout
the school year. These activities can be completed
at home or in class if you have finished all of your
work for the day. Instructions for extra credit
activities will be posted on the bulletin board
located in the back of the classroom. All extra
credit must be turned in prior to the end of each
marking period.
Enrichment
activities can be completed to earn extra credit in
this class. These activities can be completed at
home or in class if you have finished all of your
work for the day. Extra credit assignments will be
posted on the bulletin board located in the back
right-hand side of the classroom. You can earn a
maximum of 6 points on each of these activities.
Extra credit points can be applied to the assignment
of your choice; however, I will not award grades
higher than 105% on any assignment.
Activity #1: Image you
have visited the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan.
Draw a picture of what you saw while you were
there. Refer to pages 48-49 in your textbook for
information on the Aztec civilization.
Activity #2: Plan a
museum exhibit of Incan, Aztec, or Mayan artifacts.
Choose 3 items that will be included, and write a
catalog for the exhibit. Illustrate and describe
each item. Refer to pages 46-51 in your textbook
for information on each of these civilizations.
Activity
#3: Imagine that you are a television reporter
interviewing a tribe in North America. Choose a
Native American tribe and formulate 5 questions that
you would ask them. Then, create a response for
each of your questions. You may not ask questions
that would only elicit a “yes” or “no” response.
Refer to pages 36-45 in your textbook for
information on the cultures of North America.
Activity
#4: Imagine you are Hiawatha. Write a speech
to convince the ruling councils of the five nations
to join the League of the Iroquois. Refer to pages
44-45 in your textbook for information on the
Iroquois civilization.
Activity
#5: List three items or activities in your life
that were part of the Columbian Exchange. Explain
how your life would be different without each item
or activity. Refer to pages 52-54 in your textbook
for more information on the Columbian exchange.
Activity
#6: Pretend that one of your friends has asked
for your help understanding the social classes of
Spain’s American colonies. Help your friend by
creating a chart that accurately illustrates the
social structure that existed in New Spain.
Remember to include the characteristics of each
social class. Refer to page 70 in your textbook for
information on the society of New Spain.

Write a paragraph about a young African who is
captured by slavers and transported cross the
Atlantic to the Americas. Refer to pages 75-77 in
your textbook for information about the Middle

#8: Should Americans celebrate Columbus Day?
Write an editorial expressing your opinion.
Activity
#9: Imagine that you are a messenger for
Montezuma. Write a report to the emperor describing
the arrival of Cortes. Refer to page 66 in your
textbook for information on this subject.
Activity
#10: Imagine that you are a courier de bois
along the St. Lawrence River. Write a diary entry
about a typical day. Refer to pages 81-82 in your
textbook for information on this subject.
