Writing Portfolio
During the course of the year,
students will be working on several assignments that
will become part of their writing portfolio in social
studies. These assignments are designed to
introduce students to a topic, reinforce key ideas, help
them make connections to past events, or demonstrate
their understanding of a particular topic. Posted below
are some writing tasks that students will be expected to
complete throughout the year. Check
back for updates!
Unit 1 Writing

Expository
Paragraph (9/10-9/11): Students will write
a paragraph in which they explain what may have caused
humans to migrate to the Americas.

Culture Area Survival Guide (9/15-9/20): Students
will create a brochure that teaches people how to
survive in one of the North American Culture Areas.

Paragraph (9/23-9/24): Students will write a
paragraph in which they compare and contrast the
Iroquois and Algonquin cultures.
