Appétit! French students celebrate La chandeleur
February
8, 2010 - On February 2, French students in
Monsieur Fabien Rivière’s class celebrated La
chandeleur, a very important day on the calendar in
France and a day that many French kids look forward
to. This is the official and national day for les
crêpes, French pancakes. In almost every French
household throughout the country, Le chandeleur is
an opportunity to enjoy a lot of crêpes as well as
do some fortune telling while making them.

Students donate, raise money to benefit The Smile
Train
February 3, 2010
- During the month of January, more than 100
students, as well as several members of faculty and
staff at the C. J. Hooker Middle School,
participated in a fundraising campaign for The Smile
Train, an organization that provides free
life-altering cleft surgery for children in
impoverished countries.

Teachers' pet contest is the cat's meow at CJH
library
February 3, 2010 - During the month of
January, Librarian Kathryn Loughran held a
teacher-pet contest, where students guessed from a
number of photographs which pet belongs to which
teacher. Sixth grade student Karissa Smith correctly
identified the most teachers' pets and won a Barnes
and Noble gift card.

January
27, 2010 - The
February breakfast and
lunch menus give our students the
fuel they need to get through the day! The
menus offer a variety of choices, from pizza
to burgers, salads and sandwiches, so every
student is sure to find something delicious
-- and nutritious! In fact, school lunches
provide one-third of the recommended dietary
intake for calories, protein and vitamins A
and C, iron and calcium. The

Eighth
grade artists recognized
with
Scholastic Art Awards
January
26, 2010 - Several students from the eighth
grade advanced art class were named winners
in the 2010 Hudson Valley Scholastic Art Awards.
Winners were chosen from more than 1,200 entries
from schools in Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan and
Ulster.

Hannah
Godson wins
school-wide geography bee
January
21, 2010 - Hannah Godson, an eighth grade
student at the C. J. Hooker Middle School, placed
first in the school-wide competition of the National
Geography Bee Competition on January 8. Nik
Vanderhoof and Nicholas Whittel, both eighth grade
students, won second and third place, respectively.

Modified, high school spring sports seasons begin in March
January 13,
2010 - Springtime seems so
far away, but the high school and modified spring
sports season is right around the corner. High
school spring sports begin on Monday, March 8, and
modified spring sports start the following week on
Monday, March 15.

Science Olympiad teams
to
compete in February
January 11, 2010
- Goshen's Science Olympiad teams are set to
compete in February. The Junior team, which includes
students in grades 6-9, will compete February 27 at
Monroe-Woodbury Middle School. The Senior team, made
up of students in grades 9-12, will compete February
6 at SUNY Ulster. |
