General Information

5 Things You Need for Class Each Day

1.  Notebook *

foot

2.  Calculator **
3.  Writing Utensil ***
4.  Textbook ****
5.   Homework *****

* Notebook:  Suggested--a three-ring binder.  Because homework is collected and returned, a three-ring binder facilitates this exchange.  Homework with ripped edges will not be accepted.  If you use a spiral-bound notebook, be sure to clip off the rough edges before handing in your homework.

** Calculators:  Acceptable models are the TI-83, TI-83 PLUS, TI-84, and TI-84 PLUS.  Classroom demonstrations will be done using the TI-83 PLUS.  In addition, a scientific calculator comes in very handy for some calculations.  You are expected to know how to use your own calculator.

*** Writing Utensil:  Pen or pencil is acceptable for all homework and classwork.  Keep in mind that all state test--for example the Math Regents tests that are administered at the end of the year--must be done in pen.

**** Textbooks:  You are given a textbook at the beginning of the school year.  You are expected to bring this to class daily.  Your textbook can be viewed online at the address below.  I will give you a user name and password in class.

*****  Homework:  Assigned and checked daily.  IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED  YOUR HOMEWORK assignment you may make that homework up AFTER SCHOOL during 10th period ONLY, by the end of the week that it was assigned.  If you have completed all of the assigned homework during the marking period, then you will increase your final marking period average by one percent.  For every three homework assignments that you are missing at the end of the marking period, one percentage point will be deducted from your final marking period average.

 Grading Policy

Grades are calculated as follows:

Graded work is evaluated as a fraction.  The possible points available for each test/quiz will be written in the denominator of that fraction .  The points achieved will be written in the numeration of that fraction.  At the end of the marking period all of the points that you achieved for all of the graded work will be added.  The total possible points for all of the graded work will be added.  The the total achieved will be divided by the total possible for the marking period grade.  The only change to this grade would be reflected in status of your homework (*****).  If, at any time, you have any questions on your grade, PLEASE SEE ME.
