that meant to be the equivalent of a freshmen
college course. It is a two-semester
survey of United States history from the
colonial period to the present. |
Things to know about AP US
History:
- a willingness to devote
considerable time to homework and study is
necessary
- solid reading and writing
skills are needed
- students should be
prepared to read between 6 - 10 hours per
week
- critical and evaluative
thinking skills are emphasized
- much focus is placed on
essay writing and interpretation of original
documents
- class discussion is a
must
- the AP Exam is
administered in May

Students
will be developing a variety of skills that will
help them for both the AP Exam and
college. These skills include:
- writing
- reading comprehension
- analysis (a very important skill, especially
for college)
- making
connections across time and place
- developing and supporting opinions about
historical and current events
- interpreting historical documents - primary
sources, maps, graphs, art, and literature
