“Where learning begins with the turn of a page”
Welcome to the
library! Here at GIS, we are proud to help students,
teachers, and parents develop a life-long love of
reading and a passion for research. Children in
grades 3-5 will gain exposure to various genres and
materials housed in the library. They will also be
introduced to both print and on-line versions of
reference sources for simple reports.
Each third, fourth, and fifth grade class spends one
40-minute period each week in the library, receiving
instruction from the library media specialist
(librarian) and the library aide. Additionally, numerous individual
requests from students, teachers, and administration
are fielded on a daily basis.
There are several events
and opportunities to enjoy reading within the library program, including the
Library Club, The GIS Reading Club, New York State
Read Aloud,
Literacy Festival, Parents As Reading Partners (PARP),
Summer Reading Program, and more!
