Services

At GIS Library, we are proud to be a part of the educational experience for all students that walk through our doors.  We also enjoy working with teachers, administrators and community members as well.  Mrs. DeSantis and myself strive to provide educational support and resources on a daily basis that we feel will have a direct impact on our students' educational success.  Some of the services we offer are listed below:

  • A well-rounded collection of reading materials in all genres for grades 3-5.  This collection contains approximately 15,000 holdings.

  • The above book collection contains a small but growing collection of books written in the Spanish language.

  • A collection of 39 magazines, 24 of which are for student use.

  • Approximately 500 Video, audio, DVD and CD and Play-Away materials are available for classroom use.

  • Internet access to 20 free databases offered through the NYS Library.  Two of these databases are translated in the Spanish language.  We also have three additional databases that the school subscribes to.  You can access these databases through the GIS School Library Web page.

  • Audio-visual equipment consisting of CD/DVD players, video players, televisions, cassette players, headphones, microphones and extension cords can be signed out on an as needed basis.

  • Inter-library loan services to the greater Orange-Ulster BOCES area and the Ramapo Public Library System.

  •  We subscribe to the  The Independent Republican, The Times-Herald Record, and The Chronicle.  We also participate in the Newspapers-In-Education program in which the teachers use multiple copies of the The Times-Herald Record in their classrooms as an educational resource.
