Reading and Writing

Reading Strategies: What to do when you get stuck on a word...

  • Look at the pictures.
  • Think about the story and what makes sense.
  • Skip the word and read to the end of the sentence or paragraph.
  • Look for chunks or parts of a word you know.
  • Go back and reread.
  • Think about what sounds right.

Good Book Talk: What to Talk About After Reading...

  • Retell the story in your own words.
  • Tell about the characters, problem( if any), setting, and solution.
  • Talk about events that happened in the beginning, the middle and the end.
  • Did the character change?
  • What did this story teach you?
  • What would you change about the story?
  • If you were a character in the story, who would you be and why?
