Public
Librarian Visits First Grade Students
The first
grade classes at Scotchtown Avenue Elementary
School were introduced to the new Children's
Librarian at the Goshen Public Library, David
Phillips, when he visited their library classes
at the school. Mr. Phillips told the
students about the public library, explained
where it was located, discussed what kind of
materials could be borrowed from the library and
shared a couple of storybooks with the children.
The purpose of his visit was to get the students
familiar with the public library and have the
students apply for a (free!) public library
card. If any first grade student did not
receive an application for a library card,
please stop in and ask Mrs. Banuls at the SAS
Library or visit Mr. Phillips at the Goshen
Public Library.

SPANISH BOOK
DONATION
The Scotchtown
Avenue Elementary School - Library Media Center
is the recipient of a generous donation of a
bookcase filled with Spanish language books.
Lauren Perry,
a senior in the Goshen High School, has been in
the Girl Scouts since 1st Grade (for
12 years!). She noticed that there was an
increase in the number of Spanish-speaking
children at the elementary school and wanted to
give them the opportunity to read in their
primary language and hoped to promote reading
for them. Lauren spent the last several months
working on her Gold Award Project. She
solicited donations from the community and
purchased many Spanish language books. Lauren
also built and stained a bookcase to shelve the
books in the library and prepared the books for
the students.
