Welcome back from GHS Principal Robert Litz

(Back)

The summer is winding down for most of the students, while many have already returned to the campus. August 18 marked the start of fall sports and the return of all the fall athletes. This time of year continues to be exciting for me as the sounds of students and activities moving throughout the building signal the beginning of a new school year.

Goshen High School will welcome back all students on Wednesday, September 3, at 7:30 a.m. and end at 2:15 p.m., unless the students have a need to stay for make-up work, extra help or clubs. For those students, the day will end at 2:47 p.m. School buses will be operating on a regular schedule with some adjustments from previous years to offset increased fuel costs. Please check bus schedules to determine your student’s bus stop as well as pick-up and drop-off times. Dismissal remains at 2:15 p.m. and the last bus will leave at 2:47 p.m.

Because of limited parking, only seniors in good standing may pick up a Parking Permit Application from Mr. Piscitella’s office or download it from the district website under the “Forms & Publications” link. Seniors should return the application to the assistant principal by September 5. There is a $5 permit fee. Permits will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is important that student drivers understand that they may not park in spaces 1 thru 70 or in visitors’ spaces; these spaces are reserved for faculty and visitors. Also, the rear parking lot is for staff only. Because of our space limitations, only juniors involved with school sponsored, daily extracurricular activities, may apply for parking starting on September 8. They will also be on a first-come, first-serve basis space permitting.

The student handbook has been revised and will be included as part of our student daily planners, which will be distributed to students during the second week of school. This is an important publication and should be read by both students and parents.

The incoming freshmen and new students received their schedules, lockers and other important information following the Freshmen/New Student Barbecue, which was held on August 20 at the High School. A Freshmen Orientation Program will be held in the classrooms during the first three days of school. Schedules for upperclassmen, and any freshman/new student who cannot attend the Barbecue, will be mailed out on August 21. All students should report to classes as they appear on their schedule. The guidance office staff will accept appointments for schedule changes during the second week of school (September 8-12).

An Open House/Back to School Night will be held at the High School at 7 p.m. September 25. Parent-teacher conference dates have been scheduled for Friday, November 21 and Monday, November 24 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. and Tuesday, November 25 from 6-9 p.m. More information will be sent to parents in order to set times for appointments to meet with their students’ teachers.

Mr. Dave Medlar, head custodian, and his staff Rick Besaw, Bill Wright, Keith Brown, Jerome Stephens and Gary House, have made a superior effort to prepare the building for the opening of school. Mr. James Riley and the Buildings and Grounds Department have also done a fine job of preparing the High School for the upcoming school year.

Classes will begin on September 3, and after a long summer, teachers and the staff are enthusiastically awaiting the arrival of our students.

Robert Litz, principal
