Welcome to 7th Grade Social Studies!

Capitol Building

Course Description

The 7th grade syllabus in Social Studies is the first half of a two-year course of study. During the course of the school year, we will study United States and New York State History from the period of Pre-Columbian times to the period of the American Civil War. As we look at historic events our concentration will be on developing critical thinking skills. Students will draw conclusions about the experiences faced by people who lived in the past and how those experiences have helped to create the world we live in today. The purpose of this course is to help students develop the understanding and skills necessary to live as socially responsible and productive citizens of this country and to gain an understanding of America’s connection to the world as a whole.
