Science Honors Requirements

Honors level science classes fulfill the state requirements outlined in the New York State Core Curriculum guides for each subject.  In addition, they deal with topics not required by the state curriculum and cover the required topics in more depth and detail than in Regents level courses.  Due to those factors, the classes move at a rapid pace and assume that students entering the class have mastered their previous science class.

Students who earn the following grades in the class in which they are currently enrolled will be tentatively placed in the honors level class for the following school year, if they so request.  These placements will become permanent after the successful completion of the course and the Regents exam.

Class Overall Average Final Exam grade
8th Grade Science 92 92
Honors Biology 92 92
Regents Biology 92 92
Honors Earth Science 92 92
Regents Earth Science 92 92
Honors Chemistry 85 90
Regents Chemistry 90 90

Students who are currently enrolled in any Regents or honors level course who wish to take an honors level course the following school year must take the Regents exam in their current course.  Other requests will be considered as class space permits with a recommendation from the student's current science teacher.
